The 17th Iranian Statistics Conference at the University of Birjand

The 17th Iranian Statistics Conference (ISC) was held from August 20 to 22, 2024, at the University of Birjand, providing a valuable platform for presenting the latest scientific achievements, exchanging ideas among academics, researchers, and statistics experts, and promoting statistical literacy and culture. Given the circumstances, the conference was conducted in a hybrid format, combining both in-person and virtual participation. In-person participation was quite limited, with approximately 90% of attendees joining or presenting virtually. Nevertheless, all participants, whether in-person or virtual, had access to all presentations and posters.
The conference included 78 presentations across 15 specialized sessions, 110 papers in the specialized talks section and 37 poster presentations. The conference featured distinguished keynote speakers, both international and national, representing a diverse range of research fields. The event welcomed keynote international experts, including Dr. Mahdi Maduliyat, Dr. Amin Hassan-Zadeh, Dr. Shojaeddin Chenouri, Professor Pesarani, Professor Tibshirani, Professor Montanari, Dr. Arnold, and Dr. Bilgin, who delivered presentations at the invitation of the conference committee. Among the national keynote speakers, Dr. Zahra Goya, Dr. Parvin Sarbakhsh, Dr. Hadi Alizadeh Noughabi, Dr. Majid Malekan, Dr. Bahram Sadeghi Bigham, and Dr. MirOmid Haji Mir Sadeghi shared their research through invited presentations.
Roundtable discussions were held on the topics "The Role of New Technologies in the Development of Official Statistics" and "Employment of Statistics Graduates: Challenges and Solutions," moderated by Dr. Ashkan Shabbak and Dr. Ali Dolati, respectively. Furthermore, the General Assembly of the Iranian Statistical Society and a ceremony honoring a distinguished veteran in statistics, Dr. Ahmadreza Soltani, were also held.
In-person participants also found the opportunity to engage in additional activities, including a book exhibition organized by the University of Birjand and guided visits to museums and historical sites.
